Designed to provide the law enforcement officer with the skills and knowledge to deliver first aid during the course of their regular duties while maintaining officer safety and situational awareness.

Officers will learn the assessment skills necessary to perform immediate care interventions for ill and injured casualties occurring at the scene of an emergency or while in the custody of law enforcement personnel.

Training includes unique assessment procedures that are seamless with tactical principles and other operational skills, health and safety awareness and basic life support procedures for airway obstruction and the cardiopulmonary resuscitation of adults, children and infants.

Officers will also learn how to assist casualties experiencing common medical emergencies and will be taught special interventions for tactical trauma management.

The course is offered in the form of a self-paced online component followed by an 8-hour facilitated classroom practical session. Successful candidates will receive a 3-year certification equivalent to Standard First Aid and a CPR Level C certificate.

This is an intensive 15-day course designed to teach the law enforcement officer how to function as a field medic in support of tactical operations. Candidates will learn field assessment protocols and out-of-hospital critical care interventions for major trauma and life-endangering medical conditions.

Since the field medic should expect to be deployed in environments where civilian EMS personnel are prohibited from entering, candidates will learn tactical casualty combat care and battlefield trauma concepts as well as medical protocols that will allow them to function in place of EMS until casualties can be extracted to the perimeter of the operational zone.

Scenario-based training involving austere conditions in realistic field settings and situations provides inoculation to the tactical medical environment.

Certification is for a period of two years and must be maintained with acceptable continuing medical education followed by a 5-day re-qualification assessment. Agency medical oversight is required.

Field medics who have completed a full certification period and successful re-qualification are eligible for endorsement training upon agency recommendation and medical oversight approval.

All endorsement courses are developed in consultation with agency medical directors.
